Velvet is goth. Black velvet, other than the drink, is therefore very goth. it's also one of the most impractical fabrics to wear clubbing if aforementioned club is damp and you intend to drink a huge amount and possibly end up sleeping on the floor in the corner of said damp club. Neither these facts nor the hugely expensive dry cleaning costs seem to deter goths from wearing velvet.
