Harlequin Transformed

Michael Moorcock

3/4 (a sort of carousel tune)

Destroyed by a comedy I did not devise
I've reached the limit of my changes
repeating tricks solely for my eyes
Now at last, my legend ages
and reveals the structure of my lies...

And my body alters as I watch
black mask fades
my skin is pale
The colour leaves my costume
And I'm no longer Harlequin
- I am defeated from within

4/4
Say Goodbye to Harlequin
Poor Pierrot now replaces him ...

3/4
By a legend I sustained
sardonic gaze and vicious brain
by mythology I maintained
The posture that I feigned
Inevitably my pose dissolved
Entropy has left me cold
and Harlequin is slain -
again ...

4/4 (rep. tune every gun)
Drip, drip, drip, drip
Here comes the rain.
(Plink, plink, plink, plink - plucked on a violin)Abrupt end.
