This is a question which has been asked time and again by bob the world over, and possibly beyond. Once you are involved in Technical support, it's easy to see why there's no escape but the question as yet unanswered is what caused us to be condemned to this fate in the first place.
We have some theories:
The conspiracy theory
Remember that party you attended a few months ago? No, of course not. Your drink was spiked. You passed out. You were carried to a little room, where the brainwashing began. Before long, you thought a job in tech-support would be exciting challenging FUN!!! They wander the country like nomads. They are the second highest paid recruiters in the world[1].
The Humanist theory
This theory posits a few explanations thus:
How about a deep and undying respect for
your fellow humans?
Maybe not.
How about incredible amazement at how the human race
managed to make it this far.
(I thought my opinion of humanity was as low as it could possibly go... then I got a job in
tech support...)
The great old ones theory
We are all descended from various cult high-priests that worshipped and actively tried to summon
the "Elder Gods" back to Earth...to free them from unending slumber, to help them unleash the
nightmarish unspeakable chaos that would result in the enslavement for food of the entire human
race. I know this to be true..my neighbour, claims to secretly worship Yog-Sothoth...and he
gibbers quite well.
Myself...I feel a certain affinity for the King in Yellow...He who can
not be named...Hast**....
I am convinced if all of us search in our past (lives,
whatever)..we will all find that we were insane summoners of the Elder Gods. Wildly attempting to
destroy the human race....You know, now that I think about it....Ia Ia Shub-Niggurath...
