Adding simms to your motherboard

Again we refer to the question posed by Thomas Langhame :

Is it possible that my motherboard with an SIS chipset, bought 2 years ago, is limited to 24mb memory?
I have 4 8mb simms (totaling 32) and my computer only sees 24...

However this time Bob known as oddlystrange gave answer saying:

oh no you can go higher than that with your motherboard!!!

I know because I installed 72 Megs on mine. Probably what you have is a short somewhere in your SIMM slots and that's why it's not recognising the new memory. It's fairly simple to fix. What you need to do is pull out the simms you installed. Now get a screwdriver and slip it under the SIMM slots in your computer and *carefully* pull them off. You do this with some gentle force, but you have to remove them totally. Using a small amount of some kind of solvent such as nail polish remover on a q-tip should help ease them off.

Once you get them off clean them off really well with an anti-static cloth. Once you're sure you have all the dust and any little metal parts that could be causing the short off, using a small amount of something like crazy glue, glue them back onto the board. Install your SIMMS and you should be a lot better off.

thanks for asking, though. Once you've followed this advice go ahead and post back here and let us know how it went.
